Our Mission

Photo of StudentsDC Squash Academy's mission is to provide underserved DC children with an otherwise unavailable exposure to academic tutoring, athletics, and culture. Its approach provides an intensive, high quality experience to a relatively limited number of selected students. By exposing the children to new experiences and insisting on outstanding effort, integrity and accountability, DC Squash Academy helps children realize their academic, personal and athletic potential. Here is what Linda Moore, Executive Director of the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School, says about DC Squash Academy:

"One of the things that an education can do is to provide experiences that a child might not otherwise have. Who, among our students, knew that the game of squash originated over 100 years ago in England? Who even knew that squash was anything other than a vegetable that most children don't really care for?

Through DC Squash Academy, Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School students have learned much more than the history of the game. They have ...developed valuable habits of teamwork; they have gleaned a glimpse of what can beAt Stokes School, we are honored to be the pioneer partners with the University Club of Washington, DC in developing DC Squash Academy. We believe that, through DC Squash Academy, our young scholars' lives will be expanded and enriched and that they, in turn, will be well-positioned to help others."
